Maple Walnut Spice Cookies


Cookies                                                                                                     Frosting

1 1/2  cup flour                                                                                          1 C. powdered sugar

1/2     tsp. baking soda                                                                               2 T. maple syrup

1/2     tsp. ginger                                                                                        1 T. milk

1/2     tsp. cinnamon                                                                                   2 tsps. butter, softened            

1/4     tsp. salt

1/8     tsp. cloves                                                                                         Remaining ingredient

1/8    tsp. nutmeg                                                                                         1/2 C. finely chopped walnuts

3/4    cup packed dark brown sugar

1/4    cup butter, softened

2      T. maple syrup

1       large egg


Heat oven to 350º. Combine first 7 ingredients and whisk together.
In mixing bowl, beat brown sugar and butter at high speed until light and fluffy.
Add syrup and egg. Gradually beat in dry mixture.
Spoon by teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Cool on pan for 5 minutes and then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
When cool mix frosting ingredients together and frost.
Quickly sprinkle nuts on top. Yield: about 3 dozen.
